Case Study: My Experience With Water

Water Purification The Recent Technological Advancements and Historical Developments

Over the past years, the technology used to purify water has advanced tremendously particularly in the field of home filtration systems. Here’s a brief look at some of the different methods of water purification available today.
The oldest of all methods is distillation which is still utilized today. It was first developed, not as one of the methods of water purification, but to create alcohol. According to archeologists, alcohol distillers were found in excavations in south Asian countries. The process is very simple and involves the following.

Liquid is brought to a boil and it vaporizes. This vapor enters a tube whereby it cools down to become liquid again. Anything that has a higher boiling point than the liquid or cannot be vaporized in the steam remains in the first pot.

This is one of the methods of water purification that leaves the minerals behind and causes an acid pH. It has been learned that for drinking purposes, de-mineralization and acid pH levels are not healthy.

Other technological advancements in water purification have therefore aimed at maintaining the mineral and acidic PH levels of water as recommended.

The second method of water purification is Reverse osmosis which has been in existence for over 50 years now. It was developed for use in industries and large scale treatment facilities. This method was popularized in 1970 as one of the safest method of water purification by homes.

This method mainly involved removing salt. In coastal areas and island communities, this is an important and desirable feature. The method majorly worked by forcing liquid to pass through a porous membrane just like osmosis. it is the size of the porous that determines what passes through it.
RO is another of the methods of water purification that de-mineralizes, so not the healthiest for drinking. apart from demineralizing the water, this method also has several other disadvantages.

It creates wastewater that cannot be used for drinking or other purposes. It operates slowly and requires electrical energy.

Over the past, there has been other technological advancements that were developed to eliminate all the other threats. Before adopting a method, one should study all those presented above.

One of the best methods of water purification for this purpose is carbon filtration. The output of this process is safer to drink because all the chemicals and other contaminants stick on the filter. This method also removes odor and improves taste. all the new water purifiers found in the home utilize this technology.

The methods listed above are some of the technologies utilized in home purification. It is impossible to cover everything in this article, my only hope is that you have grasped something.
